Advocates for Calm Traffic
Norwalk, Connecticut
Pedestrian-friendly is also driver-friendly. Any changes that encourage people to leave their automobiles at home and instead walk to their destinations will also calm the drivers behind the wheel. Attractive landscaping, maintained sidewalks and restored historic structures give incentive for pedestrian travel. Studies have shown that moods -- and thus drivers of vehicles -- are calmed by such environments.
Norwalk is a city begging to be walked. We need to find ways to provide a safe means for pedestrians to travel.
The existence of adequate Open Space and Parkland allows people to enjoy being out of their automobiles. Many of the following sites remind us that environment-friendly is pedestrian friendly -- and people-friendly.
